Sagebrush Midnight Magic (aka Maggie) is a black jennet, and is already showing
that she is gaited. She was born on our farm June 12, 2007. Maggie's mother is
Sagebrush Dazzlin' Daisy and her father is 1990
Bishop Reserve Champion Double C Conejo.
Maggie has been a pocket donkey since birth, and would climb into your lap if you'd
let her! Maggie was imprinted at birth, and happily allows us to handle her all over.
Maggie is very athletic, with lovely conformation and disposition. She loves to play
and is also a quick learner. Although she's still quite young and we won't start her
formal training for some time still, she has already learned a few valuable skills
like a pro. She stands quietly for us to pick up all 4 feet, and has since day 1. She
learned the "touch" game almost as soon as we started teaching it to her. She is learning
to stand still for us to check her teeth, and is learning to back up on command with just
gentle finger pressure.
Maggie isn't afraid to cross water when we irrigate her paddock, and we'll introduce
her to the wooden bridge obstacle soon. I'm sure she'll love playing on it!
Congratulations to Mary Lou Linge of Overton, NV on purchasing this sweet young jennet!
Mary Lou is looking forward to riding, driving and showing Maggie when Maggie is older.

Showing off Maggie's latest trick - crossing the wooden bridge!

And crossing the ground rail pipes.

And crossing them again going the other direction. (Doesn't Bentley look jealous?)

Crossing the bridge again.

Now for the trailer! This was only the second time I'd had her in the yard and around the
trailer. Last time we just checked out the trailer and walked around it. Here we are visiting
at the back of the trailer and enjoying a rest together.
|
Then I stepped inside the trailer to let Maggie check it out. I really didn't think she'd
get in on her own, and figured I'd bring Star up next time to show Maggie how to get in. So
for this session we were just having fun checking the trailer out and enjoying some treats.
|
But Maggie had other ideas. She decided this was just a bigger version of her bridge
obstacle, and stepped right up with her front feet. I praised her lavishly for that effort,
and gave her a nice handful of oats as a treat, then let her step back down. After a few
times of that she decided she was ready for more.
|
Doesn't she just look so proud of herself?
|
Now time to get back down and go find more adventures and things to explore.
|
Next we went for a walk across the asphalt driveway.
|
This is the second training session where we've played on the asphalt. Maggie has never
been bothered by it in the least.
|
We even walked over to check out the lawnmower. There are so many new facinating things to
see on our walks!
|
Time for another treat.
|
Then we walked back over by the trailer...
|
...And I let Maggie sample some of the fresh apples under the apple tree, before ending
our lesson for the day.
|
"Oh, wait a minute! I wasn't done yet!"
